Why choose this fertility test?
This is a first line blood test to check fertility status.
When a women goes into menopause, she is running out of eggs in her ovaries. The brain senses that there is a low oestrogen environment, and more FSH is then released from the pituitary in an attempt to stimulate the ovaries to produce good follicle and estrogen hormones.Think of it like stepping on the gas pedal in the car to get going. The FSH is the gas, and the pituitary gland releases FSH to get a follicle “going” at the beginning of every menstrual cycle. If there are fewer follicles left (and perhaps lower quality follicles) the amount of “gas” has to be increased to get a follicle to develop.
So you want to get pregnant?
If you have high prolactin levels, it may interfere with ovulation, making it intermittent or take a long time to occur. One sign that this may be the issue is infrequent or irregular periods. Another issue can be a deficiency in the amount of progesterone produced after ovulation which may result in a uterine lining that is less able to support or sustain an embryo implant. If you have this problem, one indicator is that your period comes shortly after ovulation. Oestrogen of which Oestradiol (17 beta) is one, is a main hormone involved in female reproduction. If you have low estrogen levels, it will probably mean one of two things: Either your ovaries are not getting the proper signals to release your eggs; or the ovaries are not physically capable of releasing your eggs.
In addition, low oestrogen levels could suppress ovulation altogether or cause other fertility related problems, such as the non occurrence of the thickening of uterine lining required for the implantation of the fertilised eggs.
